Body of missing fisherman who disappeared on Tennessee River found
SUMMARY: The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) has called off the search for missing fisherman Jonathan Finley after discovering his body on the Tennessee River. The search began Saturday following reports of an empty boat near mile marker 192, along with a chair and fishing gear found on the riverbank, believed to belong to Finley. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which marks the 21st deadly boating incident in Tennessee this year.

Rail service in Wayne County could be restored
SUMMARY: The Rail Authority of East Mississippi is reviving a long-defunct railroad system in Wayne County to facilitate nationwide product shipping. The project aims to establish a 56-mile line connecting existing short-line railroads between Meridian and the Gulf Coast, enhancing economic advantages for local industries such as poultry, grain, forestry, and construction. Expected to cost $500,000, it could create 6,000 new jobs. Officials are currently reviewing environmental and logistical studies before seeking federal funding. The project would improve transportation costs and connect vital ports for shipping goods northward and to Mexico, with construction anticipated to begin by 2034.

Major bridge construction project kicks off this week
SUMMARY: Beginning Wednesday, M-DOT will commence a major overhaul of the I-55 bridge over the Pearl River, impacting traffic significantly. Two lanes on both northbound and southbound sides will be closed for over two months, following delays due to the recent fair. The area experiences over 113,000 vehicles daily and has suffered considerable wear. The project involves hydro blasting to remove deteriorated asphalt and repair the underlying rebar, extending the bridge’s lifespan by decades. It will be a 24/7 operation, costing $24.5 million, starting with road striping removal before construction begins. Major delays are anticipated.

Booneville man killed in Alcorn County crash
SUMMARY: A 78-year-old man from Booneville, Jerry Ethridge, died following a car crash in Alcorn County on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 45 and County Road 512. According to the Highway Patrol, Ethridge’s vehicle was traveling south when another car attempted to cross the highway from the county road. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
