Audit: Commission reviewing child abuse cases often lacked a quorum | Tennessee
SUMMARY: An audit of Tennessee’s Second Look Commission, responsible for reviewing severe child abuse cases, revealed issues with member vacancies and attendance, which are being addressed. Established in 2010, the commission often lacked a quorum, with only 40% of meetings achieving the necessary attendance. The audit highlighted inaccuracies in attendance reporting, complicating member activity assessments. The commission is revising its attendance tracking methods and has improved meeting attendance recently. Following legislative testimony, the commission’s extension for another four years was approved. Officials emphasized the importance of participation, with ongoing efforts to fill remaining vacancies.
