Growers, dispensaries disagreeing with Mississippi's medical marijuana regulations
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s medical marijuana program, now two years old, faces challenges due to an unfavorable regulatory environment, according to Ken Newberger from the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association. With 393 licensed cannabis businesses and only 45,000 medical cardholders, the supply exceeds demand. Though sales are projected to reach $100 million this year, dispensary owners express concerns over high license fees and heavy taxation. The regulatory framework, influenced by federal prohibition, complicates profitability despite state legalization. Newberger believes that potential federal rescheduling of cannabis could improve the situation, but overall, the market’s slow growth poses ongoing issues for cannabis businesses in Mississippi.
Some growers and dispensaries are saying the state’s regulations are not business-friendly.

Following recent annexation, the city is working to provide essential services like public safety and waste management. The mayor also highlighted the need to update the city’s comprehensive plan, with a public hearing scheduled. The community largely supports these changes and improvements.
