SUMMARY: Meteorologist Grant Skinner reports a medium chance for tropical development in the eastern and central Atlantic, but it will not threaten the US due to a steering pattern. Today’s temperatures reach the mid to upper 80s, with highs around 88°F. Clear skies and a light breeze are expected throughout the evening. Tomorrow will be the warmest day of the week, reaching around 90°F. A cold front will move in late Monday into Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures in the 70s by Wednesday, with overnight lows dropping to the mid-50s and possibly into the lower 40s by Thursday morning.

It was warm this afternoon, but it will be even warmer on Monday ahead of our next cold front. Tonight, temperatures will drop into the mid-60’s, so it will be more mild stepping out the door Monday morning. A few clouds will move into the area later in the day, and highs will reach to around 90° by the afternoon. Even with this front passing late Monday into Tuesday, rain chances will stay out of the picture thanks to limited moisture at the surface. Tuesday evening will be slightly more humid before very dry air and cooler temperatures push into the region. It will be a bit breezy on Wednesday with gusts up to 20-25 mph. Highs will drop into the 70’s for the back half of the work week, and our mornings will be quite cool in the 40’s and 50’s. We will have lots of sunshine throughout the next week. In the tropics, we are watching one area in the central Atlantic that has a medium chance of development over the next seven days. A tropical depression or storm could form later this week, but our overall steering pattern will likely keep any tropical systems away from the US.

SUMMARY: As temperatures drop in the Tennessee Valley, many are experiencing issues with their heating systems, prompting concerns about burning smells. This is often due to dust buildup, which is typically harmless if it dissipates within 5 to 10 minutes. To avoid heating problems, experts recommend scheduling a system tune-up and ensuring that all entrances have proper weather stripping to prevent heat loss. Regularly replacing air filters also helps maintain the system’s efficiency. For energy savings, the U.S. Department of Energy suggests setting thermostats as low as comfortably possible.

With the drop in temperatures, comes an increase in the number of people cranking up the heat for the first time since last winter.

SUMMARY: Following a mass shooting in the Five Points South District that left four dead and 17 injured on September 21, restaurant sales plummeted by 80% for some. However, business owner Ace Graham noted improvements in sales two months later, coinciding with seasonal changes and increased community spending. Despite this positive trend, the nearby Hush Lounge has announced its closure, reflecting the ongoing challenges for small businesses in the area. Graham remains optimistic, believing that community events, like the upcoming Saint Patrick’s Day parade, will help rejuvenate the entertainment district and foster local growth.
