Houston teen founds non-profit to help young girls in Houston and beyond achieve educational dreams
SUMMARY: A local Houston student named Ice is empowering young girls globally to achieve their educational dreams through her nonprofit, “Lemonade with Ice.” With support from her teacher, Miss Patricia Ellison, she is organizing an annual Gayla to raise funds for underprivileged girls. Inspired by the fact that 129 million girls are out of school, Ice founded the nonprofit eight years ago at just 14 years old. At The Village School, where Miss Ellison teaches an entrepreneurship program, students learn to create and pitch business ideas. Ice exemplifies community service, inspiring others to give back and pursue their passions.
Ishanvi ‘Ice’ Venkathes, student at The Village School, and Patricia Elliston, Head of Entrepreneurship Diploma at The Village School share how Ice’s upcoming non-profit fundraiser “Lemonade with Ice Annual Gala” will help support education for underprivileged girls both locally and globally.

Texas Democratic Party chair to resign after Republican sweep in Texas | Texas
SUMMARY: After Republicans dominated statewide races, especially in South Texas, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa announced plans to resign after 12 years. In the Nov. 5 elections, Hispanic voters in border counties largely supported Republican candidates, including President-elect Trump and Senator Ted Cruz. Hinojosa attributed Trump’s success with Hispanics to frustrations over border security and criticized the Democratic transgender agenda. Some Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz, blamed the party’s cultural policies for the shift to the right. Hinojosa apologized for his remarks and called for party unity, but announced his resignation due to the party’s electoral losses.
