Unhoused people given notice to leave Downtown area in New Orleans
SUMMARY: The state may be planning another sweep of unhoused individuals in downtown, as notices were recently distributed requiring them to leave within 24 hours, warning of potential legal action for noncompliance. The flyers provide information about shelters and mention possible relocation to an encampment. Council member Leslie Harris suggested these orders originated from the state, despite productive discussions on homelessness. She noted that previous sweeps caused case managers to lose contact with over 63 residents who were close to being housed. Inquiries to Governor Landry and State Police have yet to receive a response.
