SUMMARY: Louisiana Tech University engineering students collaborated with the United States Air Force Global Strike Command to develop a prototype aimed at enhancing B-52 Stratofortress towbar operations. As part of a significant senior-year project, the team created a lighter and easier-to-transport towbar, reducing its shipping footprint by three times while minimizing common breakage issues. Although the B-52 towbar project team has graduated, current students are engaged in five new projects for the Air Force, including redesigning ultralight wheel chocks for B-2 bombers, improving F-118 engine inspection tools, and repurposing B-1 bomber fuel tanks for storage.
