Man clinging to cooler rescued by Coast Guard in Florida
SUMMARY: A dramatic scene unfolded off Longboat Key, Florida, after Hurricane Milton struck nearby. Over 12 hours post-landfall, a boat owner alerted the Coast Guard that their captain, who ventured out for repairs, had not checked in. The Coast Guard made radio contact with the captain, who reported a disabled rudder while returning to port as the hurricane approached. They advised him to don a life jacket and remain with the vessel’s emergency beacon. Communication was lost around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. A search party located and rescued the captain eight hours later, and he was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.
