North Alabama Actor Talks Getting Back to Stage After Battle with Cancer | Oct. 11, 2024 | News 19 a
SUMMARY: Sam Ares, a talented actor known for his roles as Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” and the Wizard in “The Wizard of Oz,” faced a significant challenge after being diagnosed with oral cancer. Following surgery that involved removing a part of his tongue, he underwent radiation treatment and dealt with severe communication difficulties. Despite these setbacks, Ares fought hard to return to the stage, auditioning for roles and gaining support from the local theater community. The “Wizard of Oz” performances run from October 18-20 and 24-27, showcasing Ares’s resilience and passion for acting.

Temperatures warm through the weekend ahead of a blast of much cooler weather next week
SUMMARY: Sunny and dry weather is expected to continue through the weekend and into much of next week, with minimal rain in the forecast. Mornings will remain cool, but afternoon temperatures will warm up, reaching close to 80°F. A significant cold front is anticipated on Monday, bringing a high of around 77°F. This front will lead to a drop in temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs expected in the 60s and morning lows in the low 40s, possibly even reaching the upper 30s. Overall, dry conditions and sunny skies are forecast for the weekend.
