Huntsville Hospital Health System Terminates Contract with United Healthcare | Oct. 10, 2024 | News
SUMMARY: Huntsville Hospital Health System is terminating its relationship with United Healthcare, impacting many local patients as some hospitals will become out of network for United Healthcare policyholders. The decision follows failed negotiations, with Huntsville claiming United Healthcare has not fulfilled its contractual obligations, citing high denial rates on patient claims. Conversely, United Healthcare argues that Huntsville’s demand for a significant fee increase of over 25% is unreasonable, as they are already among the most expensive providers in the region. Both parties claim they are committed to further negotiations to reach an agreement, which will affect various insurance plans starting October 15.
After negotiations between the hospital and the insurer, Huntsville Hospital Health System has sent “notice of termination” to United Healthcare.

Battle of the Ballots: University of Alabama voter registration initiative
SUMMARY: The University of Alabama is competing against South Carolina to register more students to vote this week, coinciding with a football match. Nearly 2,000 students have registered within the past month due to initiatives from the Alabama Student Government Association (SGA). On National Voter Registration Day, they registered over 700 new voters and aim to double that number during the “Battle of the Ballots.” SGA Vice President Walker Parsons emphasizes the importance of encouraging young voters, as historically, turnout is low. Results of the competition will be revealed at the football game on Saturday.
