Arkansas Department of Education approves performance levels for state testing
SUMMARY: Arkansas is introducing a new student performance system with four levels ranging from “limited understanding” to “advanced understanding,” aimed at enhancing educational outcomes. The new standardized test, ATLAS (Arkansas Teaching Learning Assessment System), replaces the previous ACT Aspire and was developed by local educators to better reflect Arkansas students‘ needs. Following last spring’s assessments, teachers analyzed questions to establish benchmarks for student success. The goal is to use these scores to inform teaching strategies, support parents in decision-making, and improve Arkansas’s national educational ranking by tracking performance over time. Test results will be shared with parents for transparency.
“We wanted to create an Arkansas specific product standards that were created by our Arkansas expert teachers.” Jacob Oliva Education Secretary said.
