Itโs not unusual for voters not to know whatโs on the ballot
SUMMARY: Voting is seen as a crucial duty, especially for those who remember the struggles for voting rights in the 1960s. With the general election just two weeks away, candidates like VP Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are in the spotlight, but many voters are unaware of the other races on Mississippi’s ballot. Zach Wallace, Hinds County Circuit Clerk, emphasizes the importance of being informed about all candidates before voting. There are a total of 12 additional races, including those for Senate and congressional districts. Voters can contact local offices for sample ballots and candidate information to make educated choices.

City says time is up for Hotel O
SUMMARY: The Jackson City Council is frustrated with the operators of a dilapidated hotel, which has been labeled an eyesore and a community threat. Despite years of warnings, no substantial repairs have been made. The hotel’s owner’s father pleaded for more time to address the issues, but the mayor rejected claims about permit issues. A contractor was recently hired to clean up the site, but the city is moving forward with plans for demolition, accepting bids as early as this month. The council is ready to act, with a desire to demolish the building by the end of the month.
