Hurricane Milton's strongest winds yet to arrive to Orlando area
SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton is currently over Brevard County as a Category 1 storm, generating heavy rain and gusty winds. Meteorologist Brooks Gardner notes that while the storm’s initial winds were around 85 mph, ground-level gusts have been significantly lower but can reach up to 100 mph as it progresses. The storm is causing considerable flash flooding, with some areas receiving 10 to 15 inches of rain. Strong winds and flooding make it unsafe to venture outside, especially near trees. As the storm moves east and out to sea, conditions should improve by midday, though caution is still advised.
As the center of Hurricane Milton passed south of Orlando as a Category 1 storm, rain subsided across areas south. Hurricane-force wind gusts will lag behind the eye and impact the Orlando area between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m.
