Hearing for Jose Ibara postponed | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: The hearing for Jose Ibba, accused of killing nursing student Leak and Riley, has been postponed to November 1st. Initially scheduled for this Friday, the hearing primarily aimed to discuss DNA testing. As of last week, neither the defense nor the prosecution had received the DNA evidence data. State prosecutors previously announced they had a thumbprint from Riley’s phone, DNA from her fingernails, and video footage linking Ibba to the crime. However, Ibba’s attorney argues that the DNA evidence is unreliable.
A hearing has been postponed for the man accused of killing nursing student Laken Riley. The hearing for Jose Ibarra was originally set for this Friday to discuss DNA testing.

Kemp extends Helene emergency, southeast Georgia braces for Milton | Georgia
SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton is set to hit Florida as a Category 4 storm on Wednesday evening and may impact southeastern Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for 38 counties while extending an existing emergency for 50 counties affected by Hurricane Helene. The gas tax moratorium remains in effect during this time. Georgia is acting as a refuge for Floridians under evacuation orders, with Peach Pass lanes opened for northbound traffic on I-75 to ease congestion. As Milton approaches, it is generating heavy rain and strong winds, prompting 53 tornado warnings in Florida. The hurricane season runs until November 30.

Election 2024: Republican majority forecast in Georgia House | Georgia
SUMMARY: Republicans hold a majority in the Georgia House of Representatives with a 102-78 split and aim to secure at least 100 seats in the upcoming elections. Democrats are striving for 81 seats to minimize GOP control. Political analysts predict minimal change in the House, noting that many races are uncompetitive. Dr. Charles S. Bullock III highlights potential Democratic gains, particularly in District 56, currently held by the only Black GOP member, Meesha Mainor. Other vulnerable GOP incumbents include Kenneth Vance and Scott Hilton, while no shifts in congressional seats are anticipated. Three statewide ballot measures are also on the ballot.

Election 2024: Few toss-up races in Georgia state Senate elections | Georgia
SUMMARY: In 27 days, Georgia voters will elect all 56 state Senate seats, currently held by Republicans with a 33-23 majority. Political analysts expect minimal changes, with a magic number of 29 seats for a majority. Since 2002, Republicans have maintained control, but Democrats have been closing the gap since 2016. Redistricting has led to few competitive races, with only 24 seats contested by both parties. The most competitive race may be in District 48 between Republican Shawn Still and Democrat Ashwin Ramaaswami. Additionally, statewide ballot measures regarding property tax and a new Georgia Tax Court will be decided.
