North Carolina parents, advocates weigh in as 14 states file lawsuits against TikTok
SUMMARY: Attorneys General from 14 states, including North Carolina’s Josh Stein, have filed lawsuits against TikTok and its parent company ByteDance, claiming the app harms children by being deliberately addictive. TikTok disputes these allegations, labeling them misleading and inaccurate. This action follows a similar lawsuit against Facebook last year. Parents express concerns about children’s social media use, emphasizing the need for education on navigating digital platforms. Advocates suggest that regulation should be coupled with educational initiatives to help young users navigate social media positively while avoiding its negative effects. TikTok asserts its commitment to safety features and constructive collaboration with authorities.
