Hurricane Milton restrengthens into Cat 5 storm
SUMMARY: Fox 35 Storm Team meteorologist Noah Bergren reports that Hurricane Milton is intensifying, potentially nearing the pressure record of Hurricane Wilma in the Atlantic Basin. The storm is expected to impact areas such as Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota with destructive surge and strong winds. While Milton is forecasted to weaken from a Category 5 to 3, the windfield’s reach will still affect many, producing hurricane-force gusts further inland. Significant wind, flooding, and tornado risks persist across the region, with rainfall expected to exceed 10 inches. Landfall is anticipated around midnight, with Tampa Bay still potentially affected.
The FOX 35 Storm Team continues to track Hurricane Milton, which restrengthened back into a Category 5 storm late Tuesday afternoon.

As hotels fill up, Florida opens makeshift shelters for Hurricane Milton evacuees
SUMMARY: As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida’s Gulf Coast, residents scramble for shelter, leaving roads congested and hotels fully booked. Reporter Katy Iron highlights the state‘s response to the growing demand for accommodations. Inland hotels around Tampa Bay are filling quickly, with one hotel near the University of South Florida fully booked. To address the shelter shortage, the state is collaborating with hotel chains to lower rates and is using warehouses designed to withstand severe storms as emergency shelters, primarily along evacuation routes. Governor DeSantis announced plans to open four of these warehouses, with potential for more if needed.
