Old Triplett-Day building in downtown Gulfport to hold new restaurant
SUMMARY: The iconic Triplett Day building in downtown Gulfport is set to be transformed into a new restaurant named “The Downtowner,” owned by Hattiesburg restaurateur Robert St. John. Plans for the breakfast and lunch eatery will involve reconfiguring the interior of the old drug store located in the building. Construction is anticipated to begin around the first of the year, with an opening targeted for next year’s Cruisin’ the Coast event. This redevelopment aims to revitalize the landmark while offering a fresh dining experience for visitors and locals alike.

SUMMARY: A giant cockroach Reef, created by Bay Pest Control DMR and the Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks, has attracted attention on Highway 90 as it sits temporarily at Schooner Pier. While some families enjoy lunch or fishing nearby, they express surprise and admiration for the massive sculpture made from scrap metal. The Reef, intended to boost local fish populations by creating new ecosystems, will be submerged 70 to 100 feet deep about 20 miles offshore in the coming weeks, depending on weather conditions. Before its sinking, visitors have a week to observe this unique piece of art.
The reef rests along Highway 90 for those enjoying Cruisin’ the Coast to indulge themselves in the most common pest in the state.
