Oklahomans call for change in DHS protest
SUMMARY: During a protest at the Oklahoma State Capitol, numerous families voiced concerns about the effectiveness of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS), specifically regarding child protective services, foster care, and abuse investigations. Participants emphasized that the current system is failing Oklahoma’s children. Representative JJ Humphrey, leveraging his legal background, criticized the lack of authority among government officials to initiate necessary investigations. This protest follows another held six months prior, with community members demanding accountability and change. The DHS responded, asserting its commitment to child welfare while noting that case details are confidential, leaving many questions unanswered.
