Stolen Corvette returned after pursuit exceeding 165 mph
SUMMARY: A $50,000 Corvette was stolen from Canon Motors in West Point, Mississippi, in a bold theft. The incident, which has drawn significant attention, involved thieves breaking into the dealership and taking the car keys. Remarkably, the 2019 Corvette, lacking wheels, was fitted with new ones by the thieves and driven off the lot. Authorities recovered the vehicle in Hamilton, Alabama, after a high-speed chase exceeding 165 mph, during which the suspects abandoned the car. West Point Police are collaborating with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible, urging anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

Mandatory Evacuation Going into Place for Sanibel Island ahead Hurricane Milton
SUMMARY: Mandatory evacuations are being implemented for the Barrier Islands off Southwest Florida, including Sanibel and Captiva, ahead of deteriorating weather conditions due to Hurricane Milton. The Sanibel Causeway, the sole road connecting Sanibel Island to the mainland, was previously damaged during Hurricane Ian in 2022. Although it has been reinforced since then, residents are urged to take the evacuation seriously as a storm surge of 6 to 10 feet is expected. Additionally, the likelihood of power outages will increase from Wednesday into early Thursday, prompting further precautions among the community.

Mayor provides update on new chiller at Thalia Mara Hall
SUMMARY: The Friday meeting is scheduled from 10 AM to noon. During this meeting, the Jackson Mayor will provide updates on Thalia Mara Hall. A chiller for the theater has been delivered but cannot be installed until mold remediation is completed to prevent bacteria contamination. City leaders anticipate receiving bids for the remediation work by October 10th. Currently, the timeline for remediation at Thalia Mara Hall remains uncertain as details are pending.
