SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Moulton in the Gulf of Mexico is not expected to affect Alabama, Georgia, or Mississippi, but will likely impact parts of Florida. As of the 10 p.m. advisory, it has winds near 45 mph, moving slowly northeast. Forecasts indicate it may strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Monday morning and into a Category 2 or 3 by Tuesday evening upon landfall in Florida. A cold front moving southward will bring cooler, drier air to Alabama, leading to fall-like conditions with lows in the 50s. A higher risk of rip currents will persist along the Gulf coast into early next week.

Slow Clearing Skies Sunday, Tracking Milton: Saturday Evening Forecast 10/5/2024
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Milton is projected to impact Florida’s West Coast and Peninsula, with landfall expected Wednesday afternoon. The storm may strengthen into a major hurricane as it approaches, influenced by a cold front moving south. Hurricane hunters will provide updated data on the storm’s path and intensity in the coming days. Meanwhile, areas that recently experienced Hurricane Helen are particularly vulnerable. Locally, minor impacts like increased rip current risks and gusty winds are anticipated. Current weather is mostly cloudy with brief offshore showers, but temperatures remain warm, with a cool-down expected next week.
We only saw some brief showers today along the coast, and Sunday will bring more of the same besides more breaks in the clouds by the second half of the day. Overnight, temperatures will drop to around 70ยฐ. Highs by the afternoon will be back in the mid-80’s for Sunday. Monday will be warmer in the upper-80’s, but once a cold front can dive south and through the area later in the day on Monday, we will see drier conditions for much of next week with highs dropping into the low-80’s by Thursday and lows dropping to around 60ยฐ. That front will keep any tropical activity to the south of the News 5 area. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking Kirk and Leslie which are both hurricanes in the central Atlantic, but these do not pose a threat to our area. There is a new area off the west coast of Africa that has a low chance of formation, and it also does not pose a threat. The last system is Tropical Storm Milton in the western Gulf of Mexico. It is forecast to become a major hurricane before making landfall along the west coast of Florida bringing significant impacts to the FL peninsula. A cold front will keep this system on that east/northeast track, so no direct impacts are expected for the News 5 area. Rough surf and gusty winds will still be possible as this system passes far to our south next week.
The WKRG News 5 First Alert Storm Team covers part of southeast Mississippi, southwestern Alabama, and northwest Florida. You can also view the full Saturday evening forecast for the Gulf Coast here: https://tinyurl.com/5dp9smer

Tropical Storm Milton will strengthen into a major category three hurricane before making landfal…
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Moulton formed earlier today, with winds at 40 mph, moving north-northeast at 3 mph. It is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by 1 a.m. Monday, then rapidly increase to a Category 2 and potentially Category 3 by Tuesday afternoon before making landfall. While the storm will create stronger rip currents along the Gulf Coast, Alabama will be unaffected due to a cold front. This front will bring cooler, drier air, leading to fall-like conditions in the region next week with temperatures in the mid-50s at night and highs in the upper 70s.
