Mississippi governor makes stop at tourism conference in Hattiesburg

The Governor’s conference on tourism welcomed over 200 professionals, marking a significant return to Hattiesburg. During the event, Hattiesburg received accolades for Destination Marketing Organization of the Year and Best Public Relations Strategy. Mayor Toby Barker was honored with the Governmental Leadership and Tourism Award. Five connected to sexual assault charges in Laurel

Heidelberg VFD receives $10,000 grant
SUMMARY: The Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department is expanding its fleet with a $10,000 grant from State Farm’s Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, just in time for National Fire Prevention Week. The funding will help the department purchase equipment for a new pumper truck, which they ordered in January 2023 for $320,000. Chief Prince Henley notes that while the truck will arrive soon, it won’t be fully equipped, requiring transfers from older trucks. Many of their vehicles exceed the typical 15-year lifespan, leading to costly repairs. The department has already received over 254 calls this year, emphasizing the need for support in small towns.
