Kentucky charities get to work helping communities impacted by Helene
SUMMARY: Donation drives across Kentucky are supporting victims of Hurricane Helen, with the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) actively deploying aid to severely affected areas through its Operation Sharing program. Typically focused on families in Appalachia, aid is now expanding southward due to the hurricane’s impact. CAP, alongside 1,500 national partners, has dispatched four tractor-trailer loads from Kentucky to North Carolina and is coordinating additional shipments from Colorado. A donation center will be set up at Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road from Monday to Wednesday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and drop-off locations are available on CAP’s website, christianapp.org.
During times of disaster, the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) makes community its priority.

Kentucky veteran talks about how his war experience is coming full circle
SUMMARY: Ian Ives served as a combat camera soldier in the U.S. Army, documenting missions against the Taliban during his 2019 deployment to Afghanistan. While on foot in an outdoor marketplace, an IED explosion severely injured him, resulting in the loss of his right arm, eye, and half of his right quad. Five years later, despite these sacrifices, Ian transitioned to a role as a spokesperson for the U.S. Army Cadet Command, focusing on lesser-known programs like Junior ROTC. Retiring in 2022, he now works at Fort Knox, completing a full circle journey inspired by his high school experiences.
