Friday 12 pm Tropical Update: NHC still watching Gulf for development next week
SUMMARY: A potential weather disturbance is developing in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, likely impacting Florida early to mid next week. This system may originate from remnants of a Pacific storm that crossed into the Gulf. Several models indicate it could become a subtropical storm, causing significant rain and possibly storm surge along Florida’s peninsula. Rainfall totals may reach 4 to 10 inches as the system progresses. A cool front could steer its movement, mitigating direct impacts on other areas. Currently, Hurricane Kirk remains a strong category 4 storm, while the next named storm in the Gulf could be Milton.
The NHC is watching the Gulf this weekend and next week for development. Models show low pressure forming in the Gulf.
