Pumpkin patch season arrives as harder season limits growth
SUMMARY: Pumpkin patches are popular family destinations in October, but this year’s pumpkin supply is limited due to challenging weather conditions. Gabe Mayner reports on Mound City Farm in Union County, which experienced difficulties with growing pumpkins amid drought and heavy rainfall. Small pumpkin farms typically profit around $30,000, but this year’s conditions have reduced yields. Growing pumpkins in Mississippi is complicated, requiring the right balance of rain and heat. Despite these challenges, Mound City emphasizes the joy and community spirit of the pumpkin patch experience, having imported some pumpkins to meet demand after local crops were affected.
