Dallas PD names interim police chief to replace Eddie Garcia

SUMMARY: Dallas has appointed Executive Assistant Chief Michael Aigo as the interim chief. Aigo, a 33-year veteran of the department, is well-respected and understands the challenges the Dallas Police Department faces, the ongoing issues with the police and fire pension system. Dallas Police Association President Jaime Castro appreciates Aigo’s familiarity with the department and believes his leadership can maintain officer morale despite recruitment challenges. The appointment will be effective in two weeks, coinciding with the last day of current Chief Eddie Garcia. Future decisions regarding a permanent chief will depend on the incoming city manager.

An assistant chief within the Dallas Police Department will step up to temporarily replace outgoing Chief Eddie Garcia.
