Tracking the Tropics: Kirk remains a powerful hurricane in the Atlantic with tropical development…
SUMMARY: Satellite images show a strong hurricane far out in the Atlantic with a well-defined eye, posing no threat to land currently. Tropical Storm Leslie is also noted. Attention turns to an area of disorganized showers and storms in the Gulf of Mexico, which may develop into a tropical depression or storm early next week. Most predictions suggest this system will remain south of the Gulf Coast, impacting Florida more than Louisiana or Mississippi. Meanwhile, local temperatures are mostly in the 70s in metro areas, with some 60s elsewhere, indicating a warm weekend ahead.

Daphne lawmaker wants to remove fishing license requirement for jubilees
SUMMARY: Baldwin County lawmaker Matt Simpson has pre-filed House Bill 55, aiming to eliminate the fishing license requirement for participating in jubilees, a natural phenomenon in Mobile Bay where sea life gathers in shallower waters. The bill was inspired by citations issued during a jubilee event last summer. Simpson believes removing the license requirement will enhance the experience, allowing more people to enjoy this unique event without the fear of fines. Daphne Mayor Robin Lun supports the bill, hoping it will clarify regulations between fishing and jubilee participation. If passed, the bill could take effect on October 1, 2025.
Following several citations given to people during a jubilee in June, Alabama House Representative Matt Simpson of Daphne pre-filed a bill aiming to eliminate the need for fishing licenses to participate in jubilees.
