Tennessee investigating factory after workers swept away while on the job by Helene storm
SUMMARY: Amid rising floodwaters, workers at Impact Plastics reported a desperate situation as they sought rescue. Many were trapped, calling 911 for help, but evacuation orders came too late. Some managed to escape in four-wheel drives; others, lacking access, faced devastation. Family members expressed heartbreak over the loss of loved ones who perished due to what many believe was corporate greed. Concerns were raised about why employees were not sent home sooner, with management stating that bilingual instructions were given to evacuate, while others were left behind. Survivors grapple with guilt, mourning friends lost in the disaster.

In response to the crisis, numerous nonprofits, including Water Missions, have deployed to Western North Carolina. Water Missions has established a filtration system at Seacoast Church in Asheville, capable of producing 4,000 gallons of free water daily, requiring people to bring their own containers. Additionally, operations are set up in remote areas near Boone, with the nonprofit noting they typically respond to overseas disasters and have rarely operated domestically.
