Report: Georgia’s financial picture improves | Georgia
SUMMARY: Georgia has an $8.8 billion surplus, translating to $2,400 per taxpayer, as reported by Truth in Accounting. With revenues exceeding expenses, the state had $53.7 billion to cover $44.9 billion in bills for 2023. Key factors include increased federal education grants and investment income, alongside a reduction in net pension liabilities due to better investment returns. However, Georgia faces $11 billion in unfunded pension benefits and $3.1 billion in retiree health care liabilities. Ranked 19th among states, Georgia received a “B” rating, while North Dakota and Alaska topped the list, and Connecticut had the highest taxpayer burden.

Another city of Atlanta bribery scandal | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: Allegations of pay-to-play corruption have resurfaced in Atlanta, with the Inspector General’s office identifying two former city employees and their supervisor accused of accepting bribes. A report details a year-and-a-half investigation into the city’s commercial division, where employees allegedly solicited payments from contractors for expedited permitting processes, with amounts ranging from $50 to $1,200. This echoes a prior scandal from 2017 that resulted in prison sentences for several individuals involved in bribery. The findings have been forwarded to the Fulton District Attorney’s office, and the involved employees deny any wrongdoing.
