Kentucky's annual school report cards are out
SUMMARY: Kentucky’s annual school report cards reveal mixed results. While school climate and safety indicators improved and middle school test scores rose, elementary and high school scores declined. In Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), math proficiency increased, but there was a slight drop in reading scores. Superintendent Marty Pollio expressed satisfaction with graduation rates and post-secondary readiness but noted disappointment in reading proficiency. He is optimistic that the new standardized English curriculum and efforts to improve transportation will help boost reading scores. Overall, the report highlights both achievements and areas needing improvement within the education system.

Lawsuit: Man died confined in full-body restraint inside Montgomery County jail
SUMMARY: A mother has sued Montgomery County jail staff after her son, Kevin Hall, died in custody in 2022. The lawsuit, filed by Bonnie De Hart, alleges that jail employees confined Hall in a restraint similar to a straitjacket for 15 hours while he experienced symptoms of a heart attack. De Hart claims that jail policies mandated constant medical checks, which were reportedly not conducted. Additionally, she states that none of the staff present were trained in CPR or first aid, raising concerns about negligence in Hall’s care during his dire medical distress.
