West Nile virus cases confirmed in Myrtle Beach

SUMMARY: The South Carolina Department of Public has confirmed two cases of Nile virus in Myrtle Beach. Although West Nile is relatively rare in the area, the mosquito season continues into early fall recent rain from tropical storms. Dr. Paul Richardson notes that most individuals may not show symptoms, which can include fever, headaches, and muscle aches. While the overall case numbers are similar to last year, authorities are enhancing aerial mosquito spraying in Myrtle Beach, though nearby are maintaining their current eradication efforts. are advised to use bug spray and wear protective clothing.

The South Carolina Dept. of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed two cases of West Nile virus, which is spread by mosquitoes, in Myrtle Beach.

According to the Chief Medical Officer of Conway Medical Center, Dr. Paul Richardson, West Nile isn’t something seen often in South Carolina.
