Report: Florida theft convictions down despite felony threshold adjustment | Florida
SUMMARY: A recent report reveals that arrests and convictions for misdemeanor and felony thefts in Florida have declined over the past five years, despite a 2019 increase in the felony theft threshold from $300 to $750. The Office of Program Policy Analysis found the change did not significantly reclassify felonies to misdemeanors. Florida remains one of 12 states with a threshold under $1,000, while 38 states exceed this amount. Though felony theft arrests fell from 26,285 in 2019 to 16,712, numbers have slightly rebounded, reaching 21,204 in 2023. Lawmakers have also made amendments to retail theft laws in recent years.
