Development continues for Buc-ee’s Mississippi location
SUMMARY: Excitement is building on the Mississippi Coast as the first Bucky’s location prepares to open in Harrison County. With construction nearing completion, the 74,000 sq. ft. Travel Center at I-10 and Men Avenue will feature 120 fueling stations, a wide variety of snacks and meals, and acclaimed restrooms. Job seekers will find numerous positions available, with Bucky’s offering starting pay of $20 per hour, higher than the nationwide average of $16 for gas station attendants. CRUSADERS HOMELESS PSA
SUMMARY: Crusaders for Veterans, in collaboration with the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, will host a homeless veterans standown on November 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Coast Coliseum. The event will feature the VA and other vendors assisting veterans with registration and providing on-site hygiene care. Crusaders will distribute 244 backpacks filled with essential items. Mississippi Task Force returns home after Hurricane Helene
SUMMARY: A team of First Responders from South Mississippi has returned home after a four-day search and rescue mission in Florida following Hurricane Helen. Comprised of firefighters from the coast to Hattiesburg, the Mississippi Search and Rescue Task Force 3 deployed before the storm made landfall. They traveled over 2,000 miles, focusing on clearing roads blocked by fallen trees and assessing homes for trapped victims. Most of their efforts were concentrated in Madison County, where significant tree damage was reported, though flooding was not a major concern. They provided vital information to the Emergency Operations Center for disaster management.

FIRST ALERT: Tropical development, weekend weather cast and more (10/02/2024)
SUMMARY: Chief Meteorologist Eric Jaaw provides a weather update for South Mississippi, noting a mostly quiet weather pattern with increasing rain chances tomorrow night into Friday. While the weekend won’t be a washout, scattered showers are possible. Currently, it’s a beautiful evening at 79°F, with rising moisture levels. Early risers may spot a comet tomorrow morning, faintly visible on the Eastern Horizon. Tropical development chances in the Gulf are decreasing, with National Hurricane Center monitoring Hurricane Kirk. A weak area of low pressure may form in the Gulf, influenced by dry air and wind shear. Rain chances will rise again Thursday night.
