NC woman evacuates to Myrtle Beach after Helene & loses contact with family
SUMMARY: Caitlyn Laws, originally from Myrtle Beach, moved to Spruce Pine, North Carolina, to care for her mother-in-law. After being affected by Hurricane Helen, she evacuated her family to Horry County while her husband remained behind to care for his ailing mother. Caitlyn described the catastrophic scene of mudslides and destroyed homes, emphasizing the importance of Spruce Pine, known for producing essential quartz. After days without power, her father drove over 10 hours to assist them. Currently, Caitlyn hasn’t heard from her husband, worrying about his health, as over 600 families are still awaiting news of their loved ones.
A woman left her home in western North Carolina on Saturday to stay with family in Horry County. It’s the last time she spoke to her husband and mother-in-law.
Caitlin Laws grew up in Myrtle Beach, but she moved to Spruce Pine, NC two years ago to take care of her mother-in-law.
