Woman accused of stealing mail
SUMMARY: A Brandon woman, Jecyn Nino, is in custody for allegedly stealing hundreds of pieces of mail and checks across the metro area. Rankin County deputies uncovered stolen mail from the U.S. Postal Service, including items from Rankin, Madison, and Hinds counties, after unauthorized purchases at convenience stores. Nino has been charged with credit card fraud and faces additional gun and drug charges. Further state charges may also be forthcoming. Investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Student from Newton Municipal School District has passed away
SUMMARY: On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Glenda Nixon, the Newton Municipal School District expresses heartfelt condolences to the Dukes and Monre families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this challenging time. According to coroner Rebecca Burton, Duke was involved in a tragic ATV accident on Sunday, during which he fell from the vehicle. He was subsequently transported to MMC but sadly passed away on October 1st.
