Louisville mayor says city will bring back mask ban after recent shooting | Kentucky
SUMMARY: Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the reinstatement of a 40-year-old ordinance banning masks in public, following a shooting at a high school football game where suspects wore surgical masks. This decision, discussed with Police Chief Paul Humphrey, aims to address gun violence amid ongoing efforts for additional assistance from state and federal authorities. Despite a 7% decline in non-fatal shootings this year, murders have increased. Greenberg emphasized the urgency to combat gun violence, which he termed a public health emergency, noting over 100 killings this year. The city will amend the ban to allow mask exemptions for health reasons.

Evidence presented included a phone call Stynes made to his daughter using Mullins’ phone, which was found in the judge’s contacts. Stynes’ attorney argued for a manslaughter charge due to emotional distress, but the judge sided with the prosecution, establishing probable cause for a murder charge. KY leaders, domestic violence advocates discuss efforts to protect victims
SUMMARY: In Kentucky, intimate partner violence remains a pressing issue, with high rates reflected in recent tragedies, including the deaths of Erica and Janet Riley during a domestic violence hearing. Erica had an emergency protective order against her attacker, Christopher Elder, who subsequently took his own life. This incident has sparked calls for better protective measures, including funding for courthouse security and an expansion of the Safe At Home program, allowing survivors to keep their addresses confidential. Legislation is being drafted to include coercive control in protective orders, aiming to prevent violence before it escalates. Survivors are urged to speak out and seek help.
