Helene destroys businesses, homes
SUMMARY: After devastating flooding in Unicoi County, many local residents, including Deputy Jonathan Williams and campground owners Mike and Rachel Walker, have suffered significant losses. The Walkers’ KOA Campground was obliterated by floodwaters from the Nolichucky River, leaving them without a livelihood. Thankfully, they and their campers are safe, but rebuilding seems impossible as their land is entirely washed away. Governor Bill Lee visited the area, noting the collective recovery efforts underway. Community members like Lacy Hester have initiated GoFundMe campaigns to support those affected, including Deputy Williams, who lost his home and belongings in the disaster.
