FBI data says Shreveport crime decreased slightly in last decade | Louisiana
SUMMARY: The Shreveport Police Department reports a decline in both property and violent crime over the past decade, according to FBI data. However, the accuracy of this data has been questioned by the Coalition for Law, Order and Safety, which suggests actual crime rates may be higher due to reporting limitations. Violent crime peaked in May 2018 but has decreased since then, with 2023 seeing notable reductions, including zero reports in October. Property crime also decreased post-2019, yet recent increases were noted in 2023. Despite these trends, Shreveport’s crime rates remain higher than the state average in Louisiana.

Thursday 5 AM Tropical Update: Gulf development possible, but NHC says chances are low
SUMMARY: Expect scattered showers and storms on Friday, with the weekend‘s rain dependent on Gulf moisture development, currently at a 30% chance for any tropical depression. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Florida, especially in southern regions, with totals potentially exceeding ten inches. Coastal areas may experience 3 to 5 inches over the weekend, leading to flooding concerns. Breezy conditions will persist, with gusts up to 40 mph on the Gulf. Hurricane Kirk has intensified to a major hurricane, while Hurricane Leslie is following behind. The week ahead will bring low to mid-80s temperatures, with cooler mornings as a weak front approaches.
Since last week, the models and NHC have indicated potential development in the Gulf. Models, however, are not overly …

A focused look at the tropics
SUMMARY: The latest weather update highlights significant tropical activity, including Tropical Storm Leslie and Hurricane Kirk, which is the third major hurricane of the season. Fortunately, these storms are expected to remain far out in the Atlantic and pose no immediate threat. However, there is a 30% chance of development for a new system in the Gulf, influenced by moisture and energy interaction. Current forecasts suggest this system could result in heavy rain, primarily affecting Florida, with anticipated precipitation of 1-2 inches. Overall, conditions indicate any development would likely be minimal, potentially only a weak tropical depression.
Meteorologist Devon Lucie breaks down what’s happening in the tropics with the latest named storm and another storm that’s now the 3rd major hurricane of the season, then gest specific on what is coming into focus on possible development in the Gulf of Mexico and how it plays into our rain chances here and where a possible system is most likely to develop in the Gulf, how strong it will be, and who is expected to get the most impacts from it.
