Carly Madison Gregg seeks new trial, prosecution says it’s no surprise
SUMMARY: Carly Madison Gregg, a 15-year-old, was convicted of murder and attempted murder, resulting in two life sentences without parole. Her trial followed the killing of her mother and an attack on her stepfather in March. Shortly after the verdict, her defense team filed for a new trial, arguing that the trial was unfair due to the exclusion of key witnesses. Prosecutors expect the appeal but maintain that the conviction was just. If denied, the defense plans to appeal to higher courts. Both sides await Judge Dewey Arthur’s decision regarding the defense’s motion.

After murdering Marter and demanding ransom, he was eventually captured by police. Despite numerous appeals since his sentencing, he continues to challenge the state‘s execution methods. As of now, there is no set execution date, but his attorneys plan to have his case reheard.
