North Alabama Aid To North Carolina | September 30, 2024 | News 19 at 9 p.m.
SUMMARY: Alabama has intensified efforts to assist those trapped and in need of supplies following devastating storms in Western North Carolina. Local crews from Muscle Shoals have deployed helicopters to deliver essential items like clean water and medical supplies to isolated areas. Crew member Brett Harlow described the destruction as far worse in person, stating that recovery will take a significant amount of time. The Shoals Aerospace team plans to return to Alabama Thursday but is willing to extend their stay if necessary to provide further aid. The situation has been likened to conditions in a third-world country due to the extent of the damage.
Alabama became more involved in the storm relief efforts across the Southeast, with one Muscle Shoals company flying three crew members on its helicopter to North Carolina.

ILA Strike begins at Alabama State Docks
SUMMARY: Thousands of longshoremen are on strike nationwide, with hundreds participating in Mobile, Alabama, as picket lines form near the state docks. This strike follows the expiration of the contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the US Maritime Alliance at midnight. Longshoremen are demanding higher wages to address inflation and are concerned about job security amid increasing automation. The strike, which may continue for weeks, threatens operations at the APM terminal in Mobile and could have broader economic impacts throughout the country. This marks the first ILA strike on both the East and Gulf coasts since 1977.
