Comeback Coolers Packs Coolers for Kids
SUMMARY: The Mississippi organization, Comeback Coolers, is making a positive impact on Hurricane Helen victims by providing more than just basic necessities. Amid the devastation in the Southeast, they focus on uplifting spirits by delivering coolers filled with sports drinks, snacks, and encouraging messages. These donations aim to bring joy to those affected, especially children who may feel overlooked amid their parents‘ struggles. The effort extends to linemen who risk their lives during recovery efforts. As these coolers are distributed across affected states, the initiative fosters a sense of community and solidarity, emphasizing the importance of support beyond mere survival.

South Mississippi port officials speak out on looming work strike
SUMMARY: A potential strike could shut down 36 ports nationwide, including in South Mississippi, if the International Longshoremen Association and the US Maritime Alliance do not finalize a new contract by 11:00 PM tonight. The union demands better wages and assurances against full automation at shipping terminals. Despite the looming strike, Port Pasula Director Bo Ethridge stated that the port is well-prepared to continue operations due to its unique structure, which employs both union and non-union labor, and expects minimal to no disruption in daily activities.
The potential work stoppage is set to begin October 1 at midnight.

Ocean Springs Road closes for roundabout construction
SUMMARY: Ocean Springs drivers are seeking alternate routes due to construction closing the south end of Ocean Springs Road near the hospital, where a roundabout is being built. This new roundabout aims to reduce congestion and enhance safety, particularly at the Campus Drive and Groveland turns, according to project manager Sarah Harris. While some, like hospital worker Angela Reed, anticipate improvements despite longer commutes, others express concerns about potential confusion caused by the roundabout. In addition, a 10-foot sidewalk is being constructed to improve accessibility. The $3 million project is expected to finish by late November or early December.
The project will provide enhancements along Ocean Springs Road from Highway 90 to Deana Road.
