South Mississippi port officials speak out on looming work strike
SUMMARY: A potential strike could shut down 36 ports nationwide, including in South Mississippi, if the International Longshoremen Association and the US Maritime Alliance do not finalize a new contract by 11:00 PM tonight. The union demands better wages and assurances against full automation at shipping terminals. Despite the looming strike, Port Pasula Director Bo Ethridge stated that the port is well-prepared to continue operations due to its unique structure, which employs both union and non-union labor, and expects minimal to no disruption in daily activities.
The potential work stoppage is set to begin October 1 at midnight.
