Police bust drug ring, over a dozen gang members sentenced
SUMMARY: Federal agents in St. Louis have disrupted a significant drug trafficking organization, leading to the arrests of at least 15 gang members and associates. Authorities, including the ATF and IRS, reported that 50 members of the “55 Boys” gang have been sentenced. Seized items include two dozen guns, thousands of fentanyl capsules, over $100,000 in cash, valuable jewelry, and two vehicles. Ringleaders, 27-year-old Devontae Lindsay and 28-year-old Andre Pearson, received prison sentences of 9 to 12 years and 11 years, respectively. Investigators highlighted this operation’s role in addressing the violent ripple effects of drug sales in the community.

Semi truck crash closes lanes of I-55 for hours
SUMMARY: On the Power of 2 Midday, Kalista Mitrisin reported on traffic disruptions following a serious crash involving an IDOT truck on the Poplar Street Bridge. Eastbound traffic into Illinois is easing after significant delays. In St. Clair County, eastbound Interstate 55 was completely shut down around 9:00 AM due to the accident, which involved a truck on its side and debris scattered nearby. Emergency crews, including fire trucks, responded and blocked off the area, causing further complications for motorists attempting to cross the bridge. Reports of the situation are still coming in.
The eastbound side of Interstate 55 near the Mississippi River was entirely shutdown around 9 a.m. A crash between a semi-truck and a dump truck sent one person to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police investigating two weekend homicides in St. Louis City
SUMMARY: Two separate murders occurred over the weekend in St. Louis, resulting in the deaths of two men. Early Sunday morning, a 56-year-old man was shot in the Benton Park West neighborhood; a 69-year-old man is in custody related to this case. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The previous evening, a 27-year-old man named Elliott Smith Jr. was shot in North St. Louis and later died at the hospital. Currently, there are no suspects for Smith’s murder. Police urge anyone with information on either case to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
Homicide detectives are investigating both killings, with one happening early Sunday morning and the other taking place on Saturday evening. A person is currently in custody in connection with one of the cases.
