Gov. Beshear: 'Incident management team' sent to assist with disaster recovery in North Carolina
SUMMARY: Governor Andy Basher announced that Kentucky Emergency Management has deployed an incident management team to assist with disaster recovery efforts in North Carolina. At a press conference on Sunday, North Carolina’s Governor indicated that the death toll from Hurricane Helen, which caused severe flooding and landslides, is anticipated to rise as search teams access previously isolated areas. Governor Basher expressed gratitude to Kentucky Emergency Management via Facebook for exemplifying Kentucky values by supporting those affected by the disaster.

Could Lexingtonโs Mental Health Responders be Modeled Statewide?

The grant supports overtime for 45 specially trained police officers and funds a full-time mental health professional to assist on these calls. This initiative aims to divert individuals with mental health issues away from jail and towards treatment. Lexington typically sees 3,000 mental health-related emergency calls annually. City officials and lawmakers express optimism for the program’s success, highlighting the importance of officer safety and available mental health support during crisis situations.
