Recovery is continuing in Georgia after Helene barreled through the state
SUMMARY: The death toll from Hurricane Helen has reached 89 nationwide, with ongoing recovery efforts in Georgia. In Butts County, 51 homes, including Regina Davis’s recently rebuilt house, are significantly affected by flooding. Regina, who had just moved back in after her home was destroyed by a tornado in January 2022, faced several feet of floodwater from the Yellow River. Her daughter rescued her during the night after Regina believed the flooding had stopped. Having lived on her street for 42 years, Regina plans to stay and has repairs scheduled to begin on Monday morning.
Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane on late Thursday night before moving into Georgia.

Hurricane Helene disrupts Georgia's harvest season | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: Hurricane Helen has significantly impacted Georgia’s agriculture during the critical harvest season, according to reports from Governor Brian Kemp and agricultural officials. The storm has damaged every agricultural commodity, with estimates indicating greater financial losses than those caused by Hurricane Michael, which incurred $2.5 billion in damages in 2018. Currently, over 170 poultry facilities, 15 dairies, and various agricultural operations have been affected, with severe losses in cotton, tree nut, and timber crops. State leaders are advising farmers to meticulously document all damages for potential federal assistance, with Congressman Austin Scott seeking bipartisan relief measures for the affected farmers.
As we continue to track Hurricane Helene’s impact across Georgia, FOX 5 Streaming Host Ariyl Onstott did some digging on how the storm disrupted the state’s agriculture industry during harvest season.
