In Gaza’s crowded tent camps, women wrestle with a life stripped of privacy
SUMMARY: In Gaza’s overcrowded tent camps, women face severe hardships, lacking privacy and basic hygiene supplies. With over 90% of residents displaced, women struggle to dress modestly among extended family and strangers, often resorting to makeshift menstrual pads from torn cloths. Basic amenities are scarce, with shared toilets and limited access to food and clean water. Many women have resorted to using old clothes to manage menstruation as hygiene products are prohibitively expensive. The situation exacerbates health risks and mental anguish, with some facing early marriage to escape their conditions. The ongoing conflict continues to profoundly affect women’s lives and dignity.
