Operation Christmas Child helps ensure kids receive a gift
SUMMARY: Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, provides special gifts to children in need around the world through filled shoe boxes containing toys, personal care items, and school supplies. Every year, these thoughtful gifts bring joy and hope to recipients, such as Veronica Miranda, who shared her story at West Heights Baptist Church. After enduring several tragedies and finding herself in an orphanage in Mexico, receiving a shoe box made her feel loved and cared for. The organization encourages everyone, including families, churches, and groups, to participate in packing these boxes to help support children experiencing trauma and hardship.

Human waste found at Thalia Mara Hall by state fire marshal's office
SUMMARY: Thalia Mara Hall is facing severe sanitation issues, including human waste discovered on its upper balcony, leading to its closure since August due to mold and other violations. Councilman Kenneth Stokes expressed embarrassment over this situation, criticizing the lack of communication regarding the building’s maintenance plan. The city submitted an action plan on September 25th addressing at least 20 violations, but the timeline for cleaning the human waste doesn’t align with the proposed schedule. Stokes emphasizes the need for accountability to ensure the building is prioritized for cleanup and eventual reopening.
