Florida storm evacuees make their way home after stop in Baldwin County
SUMMARY: Florida residents traveling through a busy pit stop following Hurricane Idalia share their experiences of evacuation and relief. Keith Roland, whose home near Tallahassee was spared, feels grateful as he reflects on the damage storms can inflict, especially in areas like his that aren’t equipped to handle such weather. Families, like Jacob Goodwin’s, prioritize safety, having learned from past hurricanes like Michael. While Goodwin’s family narrowly avoided disaster, his hometown of Perry was severely impacted, with his house destroyed. WKRG Tropical Update (SUN 4 PM) | Tracking Multiple Named Storms
SUMMARY: Currently, there are three named storms and two areas of disturbed weather in the tropics. Tropical Depression 12, forming south of Cabo B islands, is forecasted to become Tropical Storm Kirk and potentially a major hurricane next week, likely moving into the central Atlantic without threatening the US. Tropical Storm Isaac is weakening, and Storm Joyce is expected to diminish to a remnant low soon. The main concern is in the Caribbean and Southern Gulf of Mexico, where a system may develop by midweek, but models suggest it could be relatively weak with uncertain Gulf Coast impacts.
Our main area of focus continues to be the Gulf of Mexico and Western Caribbean for possible development. An area of low pressure is expected to form in the area Tuesday or Wednesday. Some Gulf Coast impacts are possible by the end of the week and weekend.
We are also tracking Isaac, Joyce, and newly-formed Tropical Depression TWELVE.
