Local Citizens Fall Victim to EBT Scams | Sept. 26, 2024 | News 19 at 9 p.m.
SUMMARY: Scammers are targeting vulnerable individuals receiving SNAP benefits, draining their accounts through fraudulent calls that appear to be from EBT customer service. Many victims, like Tamika Posey, unknowingly provide personal information after receiving automated calls claiming their cards are locked. This year, over $30 million has been allocated to reimburse victims, with Alabama among the states most affected. The Department of Human Resources advises those scammed to report to local offices and submit an affidavit, but details on reimbursement timelines remain unclear, leaving families anxious about their ability to provide food. The FBI and Department of Agriculture have issued warnings.
Some of the state’s most vulnerable population is falling victim to scam calls claiming to be the Alabama EBT customer service line.

Strong storms damaged homes and buildings in Baldwin and Clarke Counties Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Severe Storms Possible Saturday Evening through Early Sunday: Friday Evening Forecast 12/27/2024
SUMMARY: A soggy afternoon with strong storms has brought the possibility of tornadoes and gusty winds, with three tornado warnings issued across the area. The storms, particularly west of I-65, are expected to weaken later tonight, though strong storms remain in parts of Green, Washington, and Clark Counties. A storm near Citronelle is being closely monitored for rotation. Severe weather threats will persist into Saturday, with damaging winds, hail, and possible tornadoes, especially in northwestern areas.
