Victims' families upset about Raul Meza's possible plea deal | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: The family of Gloria Lofton, a victim of suspected serial killer, seeks justice following the murders of several individuals, including Jesse Fraga in 2023 and Lofton in 2019. After confessing to these crimes, the perpetrator, Mesa, is facing two life sentences, one without parole. Lofton’s daughters desire a chance for a trial and the death penalty for Mesa, feeling shortchanged by the plea deal process. They communicated their wishes to the Travis County district attorney, but the response indicated that Mesa’s plea deal would proceed. The family feels rushed and believes they deserve answers.
Raul Meza Jr. is scheduled to accept a plea deal in court on Monday, but the victim’s family is against it, saying they want the case to go to trial.

Fight brewing over federal election monitors in Texas as polls prepare to open
SUMMARY: On election day, polls will open in less than an hour, and over 81 million people have already voted nationwide, including 9 million in Texas. In Harris County alone, there are 700 voting centers. Tensions are high with Democrats calling for federal monitors due to concerns over voter suppression, particularly among minorities. Republicans argue that the record voter turnout indicates fair elections and view the oversight as unnecessary. Harris County Judge Lena Hado supports the monitor’s presence to ensure transparency. Political experts suggest that the debate over monitor access hinges on federal and state laws.
As federal election monitors make their way to Texas, there’s a last-minute political battle brewing over whether they have a role in state-run elections.

Texas election results likely to be final before midnight Tuesday
SUMMARY: Election Day is tomorrow, with Texas expected to have results by midnight, according to former Texas Secretary of State John Scott. Over 9 million Texans voted early, and ballot processing has already begun in larger counties. After polls close at 7 p.m., election equipment will be secured, and results will be available online, with county websites offering the earliest updates. Concerns about election fraud were addressed by Scott, who stated there is no evidence of widespread fraud, emphasizing the integrity and transparency of Texas’s election process, which ensures voter confidence.
Election Day is less than 24 hours away. It may be longer than that before we know the winner of the presidential election. But we should know the outcome for all of the Texas races on Tuesday.
