Five people arrested in connection with felony drug possession

SUMMARY: Five individuals were a drug raid by and the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit on September 24. The search of a residence on Crabapple resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of heroin and methamphetamine. Among those arrested were 23-year-old Amber Pope and 26-year-old Andelyn Wheelington, charged with possession of heroin, and 18-year-old Tyra Rogers, charged with possession of heroin with intent to sell and methamphetamine possession. Two others, 31-year-old Arrington Dancy and 29-year-old Jaquette Simmons, face multiple trafficking charges. Bond amounts vary, with Dancy and Simmons held without bond.

Georgia governor says at least 11 people are dead in his state after Hurricane Helene

SUMMARY: Hurricane Helene, a powerful Category 4 storm with winds reaching 140 mph, made landfall in Florida, causing extensive and across multiple states. Emergency crews are rescuing those trapped in flooded homes, with at least 17 fatalities reported so far. Over 4 million homes lost power, while coastal significant storm surges and widespread destruction, especially in the Big Bend region. Helene has now weakened to a tropical storm, moving north. have been advised to evacuate, and curfews were implemented in many areas. The storm also affected parts of Mexico and Cuba before reaching the U.S.

Herring has been appointed as the new District Attorney for Mississippi’s First Circuit Court District by Governor Tate Reeves, the vacancy left by John Weddle’s appointment to the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Herring, an attorney from Saltillo, has extensive experience serving as attorney for Saltillo and Guntown, and has represented enforcement in officer-involved shooting cases. His term will commence on October 14 and will continue until filled by a special election. The district encompasses Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, and Tishomingo Counties.

Madison police arrest man for trying to break into homes

SUMMARY: 34-year-old Edward Earl Brown for attempting to break into two homes early on September 27. were alerted around 4:00 a.m. after a homeowner reported a suspicious man on their back porch. Another call reported a man looking into a front door in the Trace Vineyard Subdivision. Police located Brown in the carport of a residence and arrested him without incident. He faces charges of two counts of attempted burglary, being a felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brown is currently in detention awaiting a court appearance.
